I am a fan of the tv show American Idol. I was a bit jaded last season and didn't watch, but my AI hiatus gave me a fresh new perspective to be able to enjoy this season.
So far I have really liked it this season, even more than previous ones, and am looking forward to seeing the winner crowned in May (is that really what they do is "crown" a winner? not sure on that, LOL).
Here are my thoughts on this week's show (03.18.08):
So far, I think I only like about five of the top-ten contestants. The other five can just go buh-bye already, IMHO.
I used to like David A, but his appeal is waning; at first I liked his sound but not so much now. I was kind of taken back when he screwed up SOOO badly last week - like the worst of all the performances forgetting the words - but he wasn't even in the bottom 3!?! How can that be? And the judges played it down like they wanted to sweep his faux pas under the rug. I know he's a good vocalist, and I figure he is a shoe-in to win, but not from my votes.
I like Chikezie and how he arranges the music differently and makes a song his own. He's not the best singer, but definitely uber-talented to be able to do that! Loved the song from last week more than from this week. He's really venturing out as a performer, and I like that. I would like to see him in top 5.
I like Christi Lee Cook. She is not my favorite, but one of my faves. She's a really good singer, but lacks pizazz when she's performing, and I think that's hurting her in getting votes. I am a country fan, and I was lovin' her rendition of Eight Days A Week. I thought it was so cute, and something you'd see on a variety show from the 70's (maybe even Hee Haw!), but it seems no one else but me liked her rendition of it. She's good, but in the bottom every week. I think she will go next time, however if it were up to me she wouldn't go yet. I'd like to see her in top 5.
Amanda, well she's just so kewl under pressure and I like that. But she is so 'genre-specific' that it's no surprise to me that she's gone. Ds loves Janis Joplin and of course because of that Amanda was his fave contestant this season. He's really bummed about her leaving last night.
Carly is a great singer, and I mean great! But I don't like her stage presence. She comes off as depressed or something. Plus she's got that 'Heart' sound and I was never a Heart fan. I enjoy a few Heart songs occasionally, and in very small doses. Honestly she's really great, though, and I'd like to see her in the final 3.
David Cook has developed a really great sound. I like him better and better each week. I would like to see him be in the final 3. He's got a super great voice, and gives good performances... he really rocked it out last Tuesday night! I liked that song so much I want it on my ipod (not that I have one... ds and I share his ipod, lol). :-)
Brooke White is my favorite, and I sure hope she wins it! She is stunning, has a beautiful sort of raspy thing in her voice, and really gives great performances. I didn't care for her performing Here Comes the Sun, thought. I liked the singing, but I didn't like what she did on stage. She is my pick to win.
Michael Johns... like his sound, but I don't think he's got his act together yet. He has picked odd song choices sometimes, and he's not really doing as well as I would expect at this point in the competition (oh, my, I do believe that was a Simon quote... is his words getting into my head that much?). Okay Michael would probably be in the top five if it were to be, 'Idol according to Neece.' ;-)
Syesha, Ramiele, and Jason are not impressing me at all anymore. I would like them to be in the bottom three until they are all eliminated. They are just not impressive compared to the others.
Guess that about wraps it up for this week. I'll probably visit this topic again next week. :-)
'Till then...
~Neece, out.
Hi Neece-I love the new look on your blog, very Springy! Thanks for the Idol update, I haven't been keeping up and I think one or two of the contestants are from AZ. I'll have to check in soon.
Happy Easter!
