My life is hectic, and I've no time to write blog updates right now.  So I'd like to try something a little different... I want to select pictures at random from my hd to post from time to time.  They'll be in no particular order, and mostly from this year or last.  I'll try to add a little blurb about them whenever I can.


This one is from the Trigg County Country Ham Festival last year.  It was a total blast!  You should've heard the people at the pig calling contest.  What a hoot!!!  ;-)

I've had no time to blog...

I know that y'all are aware of just how busy everyone is these days.  Well that describes me to a tee... I've been a busy bee all summer long (as I'm sure most of you have been) and that's why it's been weeks since I have updated this here blog (I like that phrase, "this here" 'cause it's very south'rn... teehee).  I'd love it if I could update everyday or at the very least once a week, but it just doesn't happen; and it probably won't happen right now because we are back into our school schedule once again.  We're still busy being busy bees.  LOL 

Ya' know, I often like to ponder how quickly time seems to pass us by these days.  And when I think along those lines, I usually think of songs like the one by Kenny Chesney that says, "Don't blink... 50 years is there and there."  I'm not that old yet, and wanted to say that I'm not referring to age here.  But months, years, and even decades do seem to pass by in the blink of an eye.  Hearing that song makes me feel nostalgic and like time passes by too quickly without much time to stop and smell the roses.  I keep reminding myself to smell the roses along the way.  :-)

A song that reminds me to enjoy the moment and keep my focus 'in the now' is called "You're Gonna' Miss This" by Trace Adkins (can you tell I'm a country music fan?).  I love the message in that song about not thinking too much about the present stress, or too much about our dreams in the future, but to slow down and not get so caught up in it that we miss the joy of now. Being so caught up in the stress of the moment can cause us to miss smelling the roses along the way.  I really like that song.  Lots of good life lessons in there about enjoying the present time.  :-)

Being back into our fall schedule (even though it's not fall yet) means early to bed and early to rise.  Honestly, it's waaay past my bedtime... I'm so tired right now I believe I could fall asleep in the straight-backed chair I'm sitting in.  I'd better go and get some zzz's so I can be ready when that alarm clock goes off early in the morning.

I don't feel I've said all I wanted but will try to update again this weekend if I can get around to it.  I have a few summer pics I'd like to share with you all.  Until next time I hope you all have a great week.  If you have the time, drop me a line or two here about how you have smelled some roses along the way, how you are enjoying your 'now' moments, and what you are most thankful for.

The Fourth

It was a great weekend.  We grilled out every evening since Thursday night.  It was a total blast!  We have this little tabletop grill that is perfect for the three of us.  It takes very little charcoal to get three burgers or several hotdogs cooked.  But dh fired up the big grill on Saturday and we had pork chops and chicken that night.  I love grilling.  I'm new at it; dh has done the grilling ever since we first married.  But I'm venturing into the fun now, and it is awesome!  Love the smells, the warmth of the fire, the fun of a good meal with the family, and last but not least the taste of the food.  LOL  ;-)

Ds bought a few fireworks @ Walmart last week, and we all had such fun setting those off.  I misplaced my camera card so I had to resort to taking pics with a disposable camera.  But hopefully they will turn out.

Hello again, Blog!

I've been away from the blog longer than I intended, but had a lot of stuff going on... some with my computer and lots of other daily responsibilities and things keepin' me busy.  I've not been online much at all in more than a month.  But here I am again, just typin' away while listenin' to some good country music on GAC Nights.  ;-)

So what have I been up to?  Well, let's see...

TV-wise, we watched American Idol every week until the finale.  Go David Cook!  So glad he won!!!  :-)  And Dancing with the Stars was great this time, too!  Loved that Christi Yamaguci won!  (I sure hope I spelled her name right?)  Also we have been watching some other reality series, and a few shows in reruns that we never watched the first time around.  :-)

Memorial Day weekend we visited with our out-of-town relatives.  That went pretty well, except that I was having allergy issues.  Then the following week, I got a cold on top of allergies and that was no fun.  But, thankfully I'm over that now.  But the allergies didn't affect the fun time we had visiting our families.

Mother's Day weekend we stayed home and dh fixed a nice meal for me that Sunday evening. He and ds got me a nice card, some new clothes and a few scrapbooking goodies.

The weekend after that was dh's b-day.  It was a fun weekend, because I cooked his favorite meal, and also made him a cake with a funny black candle that said, "Over the Hill, Too Old To Count."  He loved the whole thing, and laughed and laughed about that silly candle.  It was a white cake with white icing, and I used black gel icing for the trim and words. I added tiny round multi-colored sprinkles on top of the icing gel before it set, and they stuck to it!  It was really pretty and not morbid at all.

Fast-forward to last weekend, dh and ds went fishing @ LBL.  They had a  blast that day, and I got to spend some time napping and also doing a little scrapbooking.  :-)

And speaking of scrapbooking, what I'm working on is my brother's wedding album.  It is an 8.5x7.5" theme album that I created from scratch.  I made the covers out of corrugated cardboard, and the pages with cardstock.  I am sooo wanting to get it finished and give it to them.  But it is a large project with more than 60 pages back and front, and I have limited amounts of time to spend on it.  I'm hoping to have it finished before mid-summer.  And whenever I finish it, I want to upload some pics to the old bloggie.  ;-)

Gonna' end this post with a question for you all... what did you do last weekend?  Was it anything scrappy-related?  ;-)

4.18.08 - Earthquake!

I was awakened this morning @ 4:39 am central time by an earthquake!  The house was rolling, shaking and pitching, and I couldn't figure out what was going on at first.  In my sleepy stupor, I thought ds was jumping and somehow shaking the house, so I looked and he was still asleep.  I tried to figure out what animal could possible be shaking my bedroom like that.  The shaking got less severe as time passed, and I figured it had to be a buck deer ramming into my room or something.  I know this all sounds weird, but that's what was going through my head.  I was sleeping light, but had only been asleep for a couple hrs.  It was not until the shaking stopped completely that I was awake enough to figure out that it must have been an earthquake.  I got up immediately (ds was awakened by that time, too), and looked online and on tv for info.  Sure enough there were reports on CNN that one had hit Illinois.  And OMGosh, I was sooo stunned by the news that it was a 5.2 on the Richter scale!  I had been researching info a couple months ago on the New Madrid Fault Line that follows through Memphis, Paducah and just west of the LBL area where we live.  I'm still not believing that it happened.  I sure hope everyone in those areas near the epicenter are okay.

I'd love to do Friday's Feast today, but will refrain until another day when I'm not so rattled (pun intended).  ;-)
