4.18.08 - Earthquake!

I was awakened this morning @ 4:39 am central time by an earthquake!  The house was rolling, shaking and pitching, and I couldn't figure out what was going on at first.  In my sleepy stupor, I thought ds was jumping and somehow shaking the house, so I looked and he was still asleep.  I tried to figure out what animal could possible be shaking my bedroom like that.  The shaking got less severe as time passed, and I figured it had to be a buck deer ramming into my room or something.  I know this all sounds weird, but that's what was going through my head.  I was sleeping light, but had only been asleep for a couple hrs.  It was not until the shaking stopped completely that I was awake enough to figure out that it must have been an earthquake.  I got up immediately (ds was awakened by that time, too), and looked online and on tv for info.  Sure enough there were reports on CNN that one had hit Illinois.  And OMGosh, I was sooo stunned by the news that it was a 5.2 on the Richter scale!  I had been researching info a couple months ago on the New Madrid Fault Line that follows through Memphis, Paducah and just west of the LBL area where we live.  I'm still not believing that it happened.  I sure hope everyone in those areas near the epicenter are okay.

I'd love to do Friday's Feast today, but will refrain until another day when I'm not so rattled (pun intended).  ;-)

Hugs!  Here's to hoping for earthquake-free Fridays from now on!

Friday's Feast no. 184...

The chef is taking the week off, so I'm going to do the feast previous to the last one I did...

Appetizer

Given the choice, would you prefer to live in the country or in the city?

I have had the opportunity to live in both the city and the country (country first, then city, now country again).  And because of having lived in both settings, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that my preference is to live in the country.  Period.  :-)

Soup

Who is the cutest kid you know?

Mine, of course... ;-)  As my grandmother always said, "Every crow thinks his is the blackest."  A very cute metaphor for all parents thinking their kiddos are the cutest.  LOL

Salad

Fill in the blank:  I couldn’t believe it when I heard ___________.

That it might snow here this weekend.  Seriously, snowing this time of year in the Mid-South is just plain wrong.  KWIM?

Main Course

If you could star in a commercial for one of your favorite products, which one would you want to advertise?

Maxwell House coffee.  It really is "good to the last drop."  Really.

Dessert

What type(s) of vitamins and/or supplements do you take on a regular basis?

Nothing on a regular basis, 'cause vits tend to upset my tummy.  But other than a daily supplement here and there, I occasionally take B vits, garlic tablets, Vit. C, minerals and Amino Acids.

Happy Friday, y'all!  Have a terrific weekend!  :-)

Friday's Feast :-)

3.28.08 Friday's Feast #185...

Appetizer

What does the color dark green make you think of?

A bad car color from the 70's.

Soup

How many cousins do you have?

A million.  No wait, forgot one... make that a million and one.  I have lots of cousins!  LOL

Salad

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how honest are you?

100% honest.  So that would be a 10.

Main Course

Name something that is truly free.

Salvation through our Lord, Jesus Christ.  It's 100% free -- always has been; always will be.

Dessert

Using the letters in the word SPRING, write a sentence.

Some people run in new grass (okay, that is totally off the top of my head, and totally whacky!  LOL).

Have a great weekend, y'all!

AI chatter (3.27.08)...

Spoiler warning: don't read any further down if you haven't watched the AI elimination show yet!!!

I must admit I was pretty surprised by tonight's elimination show.  Somehow I just didn't figure Chikezie would go yet.  I liked him so well for the last two weeks (until Tuesday's performance).  I realized that I just don't like him as well when he sings ballads (but his voice is really nice, though!).

And how in the world did Syeshia get in the bottom 3 this time?  I thought she sang amazingly well on Tuesday night!

My top three picks from Tuesday night's performances:

#1: David Cook TOTALLY RAWKED!!!  His version of the old Whacko Jacko song called Billie Jean was such a show stopper!!! (And to think I never wanted to listen to it again 'cause I totally wore it out in the 80's. LOL)  David Cook put such a fresh new kewl twist on the song, that it didn't even sound anything like MJ's version.  Ya' know, DC has caused me to like BJ again, and that is a miracle in itself!  LOL  I must (I say MUST!) download it to the old ipod!

#2: Syeshia Mercado's song was sooo beautiful and flawless.  I don't even remember what she sang, I was just so enjoying the vocals -- it truly was her best performance yet!  I had figured her gone already, but maybe the best is yet to come with her?  It's like Paula said, Syeshia's the dark horse now.  :-)

#3: Brooke White did not perform the song the way *I* would have liked... I had to agree with Simon that the performance/arrangement would have been better if she had stuck to playing solo without the band joining her halfway through.  Surely she will get her performance right next week!?! (Go Brooke!!!)  She's still my favorite contestant, but that is being rivaled this week by David Cook, for sure!

Being the realist that I am, I do realize that none of this AI stuff is important in the scheme of things.  However, it is of significance in this realm: that it's something ds and I look forward to watching together every week.  Time when we can talk, laugh and have popcorn together... ;-)  And I think that's a pretty kewl thing... that he enjoys watching tv with his mom.  lol

Have a great week, y'all!

Let's talk storage (UPDATED)...

I have been anxiously awaiting the day that I could share this with you all... it is my 'clip-it' storage, inspired by this post on scrappertalk (aka SBA).  It is an alternative to the  rotating Clip It Up storage system.  I like the original Clip It Up thing, but didn't have the dollars or the desktop space for it... and when I saw Angie's alternative, I knew I just had to create one.  I didn't have the wall space to use the curtain rods like Angie did, so the end result turned out similar yet different than hers.

Here's my 'clip it' system:

I bought the clips from Oriental Trading Company.  I purchased these silvertone metal clips, and these plastic belt key clips to make each clip unit (***UPDATE on Broken Clips: I emailed Oriental Trading Company about the broken clips - a couple dozen of the plastic key clips were broken and unusable - and OTC emailed me a shipping confirmation notice today that said they shipped out a whole new bag.  Wow!  Now that's great customer service!!!  I'll keep you posted when they arrive***).

Here are pictures of the clips:

I hung them from a wire shelf unit, and grouped many like items in ziploc bags, but also clipped many things individually.  I utilized the back portion of the shelves for varied items, mostly stuff I don't access very often.  I really like how it turned out!  I grouped stuff by category, for instance my chipboard stuff is by manufacturer in the bags.  And I also have things like slide mounts, tags, and envelopes separated into ziplocs on the bottom shelf.  Oh, and on the ends of the top and bottom shelves are my "Ziploc Books" that I posted not too long ago... they worked out great because they're full of lightweight prima flowers (I attached the metal clip part onto the "spine" end of the glued-together bags).  It is so easy now to see what I have, and flip through it when I'm scrapbooking.  It actually gave me the feeling of being in a scrapbook store flipping through the embellishments & stickers, but it was my own stash!  LOL

It is my hope that this creation will inspire someone out there, like me, who loves to find the "perfect" solution to a storage delimma.  We scrappers are constantly needing to update and adjust our storage options for varied reasons.  And for me, my reason is as I've said before, that I had to find new solutions for storing my goods because we moved, and I no longer had a dedicated scrap space.  Feel free to ask questions and I'll try to answer back in later posts.

I hope everyone had a great Easter!  'Till next time...
